Influenza

Influenza is a contagious viral illness that can cause fever, body aches, cough, sore throat, and marked fatigue. Some people become very ill.

Symptoms

Symptoms often start quickly and can include fever, chills, body aches, headache, cough, and exhaustion.

Causes and risk

Exposure during flu season raises risk. Older adults, pregnant patients, and people with chronic disease are at higher risk for complications.

How it is evaluated

We review timing, risk factors, hydration, breathing, and whether antiviral treatment is appropriate.

Treatment

Treatment may include antiviral medication, symptom relief, rest, and careful follow-up.
